HISTORY:
In 1972, the U.S. Air Force was looking
to replace the C 130 Hercules with a medium airlifter capable
of
operating in battle zones with short and or temporary
airfields.
Boeing designed an aircraft on the use of a wing developed by
NASA with
high speed airflow that clung to the wing surface and then
directed
downward to provide greater lift.
The STOL performance and low-speed maneuverability was
superior.
However, when the YC 14 was ready for production, the military
priorities changed. The Air Force needed a larger
transport that
could fly standard airfields.
By 1979 the Air Force officially cancelled the program for the
YC 14
& YC 15 making way for the CX program - making way for the
C 17.

wing-span is 21.496 inches with a length of 21.929 inches.
